DANCE INTERSECTION

The mission of the Dance Intersection is to engage audiences in the creative process both as a way to build community and as means to shape and inform the work. A number of interaction opportunities will be built into the process of creation around each new work, ranging from open rehearsals to issue forums and design inspiration forums. Dance Intersection seeks to create a platform that is an integral point where audiences can impact the artistic work in a constructive and powerful way. The company, in turn, has the opportunity to actively engage with audiences in a constructive and meaningful way, which provides a sense of intimacy as audience and artist become familiar with the structure.

This is a relay- based work that relies on call and response, and the multiple layers of emotion and body- language that can come into play when people converse. The project seeks to show how language as described in the body can begin simply and build within a community towards a forceful or neutral end. Cast: Lucie Baker, Courtney Drasner, Sarah Housepian, Julia Jurgilewiscz, Hannah Seidel and Katie Stehura.

Also on the program "Weathered" 2012, evoking atmospheric conditions, a work that turns concepts of slippage, displacement, resistance into a metaphor for the harmony and chaos of life.

Movement and Mindfulness & New Work in progress
Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 7:30PM

DANY Studios
305 West 38th Street

This Dance Intersection features live music by composer Miguel Frasconi.

The connection of mindfulness and dance. The act of watching and moving come together. The audience and dancers will be lead on a guided instruction of a mindfulness exercise. The evening will include improvisation and dialogue about attention to the body and mind. Composer Miguel Frasconi will accompany the dancers.

Miguel Frasconi uses glass objects, electronics, keyboards, and "de-evolved" instruments to create music that sounds from a uniquely imagined tradition. His instruments have been called "a beautiful menagerie of pealing contraptions" (Time Out NY), while his music has been called "lyrical and stormy" (New York Times).

In the second part of the evening, the company will present its new work "Layers", for 6 dancers. In "Layers", Dancers overlap, interrupt, and create their own push/pull language of movement.
